Trump has\u00a0bristled at the suggestion<\/a>\u00a0he has not taken\u00a0action against Russia<\/a>,\u00a0which has continued to bombard Ukraine with drone strikes amid efforts by Trump and others to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n Asked on Wednesday why he\u2019s not taken action against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump objected to the premise, pointing to the tariffs<\/a>\u00a0he imposed on India over its purchase of Russian oil, and he suggested that step was merely the first phase.<\/p>\n \u201cHow do you know there\u2019s no action? Would you say that putting secondary sanctions on India \u2014 the largest purchaser outside of China, they\u2019re almost equal \u2014 would you say there\u2019s no action?\u201d Trump said, referring to the\u00a0additional 25 percent tariffs<\/a>\u00a0placed on India for purchases of Russian oil.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThat cost hundreds of billions of dollars to Russia. You call that no action? And I haven\u2019t done Phase 2 yet or Phase 3,\u201d the president added.<\/p>\n The move toward additional sanctions on Russia comes as progress has\u00a0appeared to stall<\/a>\u00a0on efforts to broker a deal to end the war in Eastern Europe.
