(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcnewsnow.com\/news\/local-news\/virginia\/loudoun-county\/american-airlines-flight-makes-emergency-landing-at-dulles-after-passengers-device-catches-fire-officials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WDCW<\/a>) \u2013 An American Airlines flight destined for Phoenix was forced to land at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) on Saturday after a passenger&#8217;s device reportedly caught fire.<\/p>\n<p>American Airlines Flight 357 landed safely at Dulles, located just outside of Washington, D.C., at around 11:50 a.m. after the crew reported a fire in one of the passenger rows, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcnewsnow.com\/news\/local-news\/maryland\/first-human-case-of-screwworm-flesh-eating-parasite-in-maryland-report-says\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tFirst human case of flesh-eating parasite identified in Maryland, report says\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a statement to Nexstar&#8217;s WDCW, an American Airlines spokesperson said smoke was spotted coming from &#8220;a customer&#8217;s device&#8221; and that the crew &#8220;quickly contained&#8221; it before landing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this caused and thank our crew for their professionalism,&#8221; the airline said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>Officials did not specify what kind of device the customer had or what caused it to begin to smoke.<\/p>\n<p>Responders greeted the aircraft at Dulles, per standard procedure, to help passengers deboard the plane, American Airlines said.
